There are many forms of Mediumship. The most intriguing to me is Physical Mediumship. This type of Spirit Communication takes on many expressions such as Direct Voice and Apports. As a medium I have been present during a sitting where Spirit spoke, the voice of a discarnate soul was heard and taped during a session.
I have also been blessed to receive several apports. An apport is an item from the physical world that is moved by Spirit from one place to another. My favorite of these forms of Spirit Communication was a black feather that I first received while visiting Neidpath Castle in Scotland in 2006. Early one morning, around 3 AM I had a visit from a man in Spirit clearly dressed in 13th century garments. I had thoroughly researched the history of Scotland in the 13th and 14th centuries for my books so I recognized the dress but not the man. His face was so clear and his hair was long with tiny braids in front. He told me that I was going to visit his castle that day and that his name was Gilbert de Hay. Through my research on Neidpath I knew that Simon Fraser held the castle in the 13th century so this new information about de Hay was surprising.
When I arrived at the old manor later in the day I purchased a booklet put together by the current owners on the castle's history. I flipped through the pages and found a story of how Robert the Brus awarded the lands and castle to Gilbert de Hay on the occasion of his marriage to the daughter and only heir of Simon Fraser in 1307. What wonderful validation! As I entered the great hall by way of a turnpike stair I looked down and saw a black feather on the last step. I picked up the feather and went to photograph it. But the object melted into thin air from my hand. It just disappeared out of my fingers. Six months later it reappeared back in Boston at my home. The timing of the apport was perfect as it verified messages that I had recently received from other mediums.
Another form of Physical Mediumship I have been fortunate to experience was something similar to a stigmata where Spirit puts a physical mark on the body. Unlike the scars or open wounds appearing on the hands of Saints, these marks from Spirit do not last very long and are generally superficial.
I had been communicating since 9-11 with a man who identified himself as a passenger on one of the airplanes that hit the World Trade Center. He told me that he had played hockey. And he showed me through visions the details of his struggle on board the aircraft and how he passed. I then asked him for specific facts. I wanted to know about any injuries he had that could be verified. He mentioned a date of October 13th. He gave me information about damged teeth. I had forgotten all about the communication when on the morning of October 13, 2007 I woke up to find a curious mark on my left hand, like a bite mark only it was from someone who had damaged teeth. I heard this man in Spirit laughing and then it all made sense. Spirit had found a way to communicate the details of a physical injury that I could later validate in records.
To me Spirit Communication is always innovative. It is also specific to the person receiving the information. And it is as unique as the communicator sending the message. Many times as a medium we hear the words from Spirit or see the visions but we don't always comprehend the meaning. The secrets held within these messages can often be a jigsaw puzzle of information. I am always surprised by the innovative work of those in Spirit. And when they use Physical Mediumship to enhance their messages it is both exciting and impressive to me.
